Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club

The best value membership in the area, with a membership category to suit everyone’s circumstances

As a member of the West Course you will become a member of the Society of Ashdown Golfers. Founded in 1985, Ashdown Golfers were originally based at the Ashdown Hotel adjacent to the course and were recognised as a club in their own right by England Golf in 2003.  The society is made up of keen golfers who enjoy the company of others for informal and competitive golf and whose home is the West Course. We believe that the strength of environment created by the Ashdown Golfers, coupled with quality of the West Course (as recognised by Golf World), offers the best value membership in the area.

Weekly Roll Ups  Ashdown Golfers operate regular and well attended roll-ups, three times a week.  It is an opportunity to meet new members and share stories whilst playing an informal game of golf, followed by a drink and a bite to eat. The roll-ups are very popular with the membership, appealing to 20+ members on a weekly basis throughout the year.

On paper, the West Course appears a straightforward enough challenge. With a par of 68, it is short with a solitary par 5 and no bunkers. But it’s also fraught with other danger so leave the driver at home. Like the neighbouring Old Course, the West is plotted on protected land, but while the Old glories in its stunning heathland setting, the West Course is surrounded by lovely woodland sprinkled with heather and is actually the tighter of the two. A championship course in its own right, the West isn’t about power and length but accuracy and course management.

Like its sister a superb moorland-heathland with no bunkers. Some really excellent holes and, for some on the panel, should join its sister in the main list.
