Q: The paths around the clubhouse are being resurfaced with tarmac. Would not a rubber surface have been easier and cheaper?

A: All possibilities were looked into in both terms of price, durability and aesthetics. In the end it was decided that tarmac would fit in with the current paths and was a durable option. Cost wise it is approximately 50% cheaper than rubber/Astroturf options.
