The opportunity of a lifetime:
Membership of Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club.
A candidate must be proposed and seconded by members of at least five years’ standing, each of whom must have known the candidate for an acceptable period of time, usually three years.
If a potential new member doesn't know any existing members they should contact the Secretary.
Another fine tradition: Cantelupe Golf Club.
We’re proud to house Cantelupe Golf Club, established in 1892 and named after Viscount Cantelupe, son of Earl de la Warr, the President and Landlord of Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club. The Cantelupe are now the second oldest artisan club in England. Current members of the Cantelupe aspire to neither the Ryder Cup nor to the Open but nevertheless strive to master the two superb courses on Ashdown Forest.
An alternative option is to join Anderida Golfers, who play on the West Course.
In order to attract business to the hotel and, at the same time, provide a facility to aspiring golfers they formed, with the help of local golfers, a golf society called Anderida. Such was the success of the venture that it has grown over the years, surviving various hotel refurbishments and changes of hotel ownership. When the hotel was demolished in 2003, the complete management of the West Course operation moved to the parent Club. Finally gaining recognition by the EGU as affiliated to Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club, and now called Anderida Golfers, the members enjoy the facilities of the West Course and its new Clubhouse.
Anderida Golfers have their own committee, run their own competitions, inter-club matches and all the usual activities of a thriving group operating an open membership policy. Being limited in the total number of members permitted at any one time, there is usually no problem for their members in booking tee times.
Our Junior Section is open to sons and daughters of members and anyone else who knows a full member willing to propose them.
We firmly believe that youngsters play an important role in the furthering of the grand game of golf, and encourage all to participate.
We have an active programme in the school holidays with a key feature being the group coaching, which is given by the Professional and is well attended.
Royal Ashdown also arranges events for all ages, which include matches with the junior sections of other Clubs. Adult/Junior competitions within the Club are also arranged for those with handicaps and those without have their own events.
