The Professionals

Martyn Landsborough Hector
Padgham
Since the Courses were established in 1888, Royal Ashdown Forest Golf Club has
only had three Club Professionals.
The current Professional, Martyn Landsborough, has been at the Club since 1989
and claimed two holes-in-one in the space of 6 months on the 249 yard par 3 11th
hole on the Old Course.
His predecessor, Hector Padgham, remained in the post for 42 years during which
time he won both the Sussex Open and Sussex Professionals Championship.
Jack Rowe first held the position from 1891 for 55 years and 1 day. He made and
presented the golf club with which HRH the Duke of Cambridge struck his first
ever golf shot in 1893, which resulted in the Club being granted use of the title
of "Royal". This followed a review of the troops under the command of the Duke
on Ashdown Forest.
