Notes on the Election of New Members
The election of a member is at the absolute discretion of the General Committee
and proceeds as follows: -
Ordinary Membership
1 Proposer and Seconder
A candidate must be proposed and seconded by members of at least 5 years standing,
each of whom must have known the candidate for an acceptable period of time, usually
three years. They must be fully satisfied with the candidate’s playing ability
viz. handicap less than 24. They must comment positively on social acceptability
and the candidate’s interest in fostering the traditions of the Club. They must
each submit a letter to this effect with the Initial Proposal Form.
2 The Proposal Forms
There are two forms
This can be obtained from the Secretary or downloaded from the Club website by
CLICKING HERE. When the form is duly signed and completed by the proposer and seconder it
can then go before the Membership Sub Committee for scrutiny. Once deemed satisfactory,
four additional members must submit supporting letters to the Secretary no later
than seven days before the next meeting of the General Committee.
(b) Notice Board Form
When the candidate proposed satisfies the General Committee it may, at its absolute
discretion, direct that the details be posted on the notice board. When this form
has been posted on the notice board any member may support the prospective candidate
by signing the form or by letter to the Secretary. Among the supporters, two or
more must have been either a Captain or Committee member. This does not apply
when the proposer and/or seconder is/are either of the above. In addition to proposer
and seconder, and four initial additional members, a minimum of six further members
should support the election. Candidates should be encouraged to play with as many
members as possible during this period. Duly supported and posted on the board
for at least fourteen days the Committee may then confirm election to the Club.
3 Overseas Members
Members can propose candidates who are permanently resident abroad and are members
of clubs of equivalent status. Only a proposer and seconder are needed for this
category, but before seeking election candidates should if possible have played
with a past or present member of Committee.
