Won by the great South African golfer Bobby Locke when it was first competed for in 1936, the Winkley Smith Bowl is still one of the most coverted trophies in golf in the South. This year because of the heavy rough the course was playing even more difficult than usual. Which makes home player Jon Daly's aggragate of 142 all the more laudable. In his morning round he recoreded 16 pars and 2 birdies and although not as consistent in the afternoon still matched par. In winning by 2 shots from another home player Andrew Smith (last year's winner) it was a good day for the home club. Next year's competition will take place on Saturday 2nd August, which will hopefully attract another strong field.
